Shannon Grindle Named MASCAC Softball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman shortstop Shannon Grindle has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Halifax, Massachusetts, Grindle batted .324 (11-34) in ten games for the Bears last week with a home run, a pair of doubles, ten RBI and five runs scored at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. She also posted a team-leading .471 slugging percentage.

Grindle homered in her first career at bat in the Bears season-opening 4-2 win over Mount Mary University. She also went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in a 7-6 setback to New Jersey City University; 1-for-3 with an RBI double and run scored in a 5-2 win over Rockford University; 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run in a 15-7 win over Elms College; 2-for-4 with an RBI in an 8-6 setback to Kenyon College; and 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in an 8-4 loss to Swarthmore College.

The BSU softball team is currently 4-6 on the young season. The Bears are scheduled to travel to Wheaton College on Tuesday, March 21st for a three o'clock doubleheader with the Lyons.
