Shannon Grindle Named MASCAC Softball Player & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman designated player Shannon Grindle has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player and Rookie of the Week.

A native of Halifax, Massachusetts, Grindle batted .524 (11-21) with a home run, two doubles, seven runs batted in and two runs scored with a .762 slugging percentage and .471 on-base percentage in a 4-2 week for the Bears.

Grindle went 5-for-8 with a walk-off home run, a double, five RBI and a run scored in a doubleheader split with Westfield State. She also had two hits and an RBI in a doubleheader split with Salem State, and went 4-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, a run and an RBI in a sweep of Rhode Island College.

Through 20 games this season, Grindle is batting .397 (27-68) with two home runs, seven doubles, ten runs scored and 19 RBI. She is tied for the MASCAC lead in doubles and ranks second in runs batted in, fifth in home runs, sixth in batting average and ninth in slugging percentage (.588).

The BSU softball team is currently 8-12 on the season and 2-2 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of games with the Corsairs starting at 3:15.
