Tracey Sanko Named to NFCA All-New England Team

2009 NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division III All-New England Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Bridgewater State College sophomore left fielder Tracey Sanko has been named to the 2009 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)/Louisville Slugger Division III All-New England Team.

Sanko, a third team selection, batted .424 on the season with three home runs, 38 runs scored and 35 stolen bases.  She also posted a .515 slugging percentage and a .472 on base percentage.  Sanko set the BSC single-season record with her 35 stolen bases as she broke Kristy Wilbur's previous mark of 27 set back in 1997.

The Windsor, Connecticut native led the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in stolen bases and ranked second in hits with 56.  She also finished tied for second in runs scored along with teammate and fellow All-New Englander, Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA), and was third in total bases (68), fourth in batting and on base percentage, and tied for fourth in home runs.

Sanko helped BSC (28-11) capture a share of the MASCAC regular season title as the team went 10-2 in conference play.  The softball team has now won or shared 14 consecutive MASCAC regular season titles. Seeded second at the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears went on to capture the tournament title for the seventh time in the nine-year history of the event.

The Bears also made the program's 20th appearance in the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament and tenth in the last 12 years.

In two seasons at Bridgewater, Sanko is batting .378 with 3 home runs, 68 runs scored, 24 RBI and 45 stolen bases. She already ranks fourth all-time at BSC with her 45 thefts.  Former softball standout and current assistant coach, Angela Vecchione, holds the Bears' career stolen base mark with 60.

Earlier this month, Sanko was selected to the All-MASCAC First Team.
