Alyssa Verronneau Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College junior right-hander Alyssa Verronneau has been selected as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Verronneau went 2-0 and picked up a save in 15 innings of work over three appearances against MASCAC teams last week. She posted a 0.93 ERA, fanned 19 batters, and did not allow a walk for the Bears.

The Acushnet, Massachusetts native tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts on Tuesday versus Mass Maritime Academy, and then pitched well in Saturday's doubleheader with Westfield State. Verronneau tossed three solid innings giving up one hit while striking out five to earn the save in the opener, and hurled a complete-game effort  fanning five to complete the sweep of the Owls. Her save in game one was her MASCAC-leading fifth of the season.

On the season, Verronneau has posted an 11-4 record with 116 strikeouts and a 2.21 earned run average. She ranks first in the MASCAC in saves and appearances (23) and is second or tied for second in ERA, strikeouts, wins and innings pitched (114.0).

Bridgewater State is currently 20-14 overall with a perfect 12-0 record in the MASCAC. They will close out the season with a pair of doubleheaders before hosting the MASCAC Tournament. On Thursday they will travel to Southern Maine at 3:30 P.M. and then entertain MASCAC foe MCLA on Saturday at noon in the regular season finale.
