BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team swept a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with MCLA this afternoon at Alumni Park.  The Bears banged out 34 hits in the twinbill as they won the opener 17-2 and completed the sweep with an 11-0 victory in game two.  Both games were stopped after 4 ½ innings of play due to the eight-run rule.

With the pair of wins BSC wraps up the regular season with a 23-15 mark.  The Bears went undefeated in MASCAC play with a perfect 14-0 conference record.  MCLA finished with a 10-22 overall record and a 4-8 mark in the MASCAC.

In game one, sophomore right-hander Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) was the benefit of a 17-run, 17-hit attack as the Bears scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third and seven in the fourth. Ducinski (6-3) allowed two runs on six hits in the complete game effort as she walked just one and struck out seven.

Game two belonged to junior right-hander Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) who picked up her sixth shutout of the season.  Verronneau scattered three hits, did not issue a walk and struck out six.  She improved to 13-5 on the season and lowered her earned run average to an impressive 2.12.

Freshman left fielder Tracey Sanko (Windsor, CT) and sophomore right-fielder Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, MA) led the hit parade for the Bears in the doubleheader.  Sanko finished 7-for-7 in the two games with a walk, a stolen base, six runs scored and two runs batted in.  Noyes went 6-for-6 with a walk, a stolen base, seven runs scored and seven RBI.

Junior center fielder Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA) went 4-for-5 on the afternoon with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored and seven runs batted in. LeBlanc raised her team-leading batting average to .433 as she is just two points ahead of Noyes (.431) in the team batting race.

Junior shortstop Rachael Sprague (Duxbury, MA) finished 5-for-7 with a double, two runs and four RBI.  The double was her team-leading 14th of the season as she is four shy of the school record of 18 doubles set by Dawn Harrington in 1993.

Senior DP Ciana Godin (Worcester, MA) reached safely in all four plate appearances as she was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a walk, four runs scored and an RBI.  Godin, along with fellow seniors Lindsey Allison (South Easton, MA), Nicole Hebert (Taunton, MA), and Danielle Trull-Donahue (Stoughton, MA) were honored after the doubleheader as part of the Senior Day festivities.

Bridgewater will host the MASCAC Tournament which gets underway next Thursday.  The top-seeded Bears will take on fourth seeded Framingham State College on Thursday afternoon at 4.
