BSC Softball Sweeps Pair of Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State College softball team swept a pair of games today at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida.  With the two wins, the Bears even up their 2008 record at 3-3.

In the opener, BSC knocked off 2006 National Champion and 2007 finalist Rutgers-Camden, 13-3, behind a six RBI performance by senior second baseman Nicole Hebert (Taunton, MA).

Hebert belted a grand slam and drove in a pair of runs with a two-run double as she finished 2-for-4 in the game.

Junior pitcher Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) went the distance allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out two and walking just one.

Senior first baseman Danielle Trull-Donahue (Stoughton, MA) and freshman Tracey Sanko (Windsor, CT) each went 3-for-4 with a walk apiece. Trull-Donahue tripled and scored three runs, while Senko connected for three singles and scored four runs.

In the second game of the day the Bears edged Spring Arbor University, 5-3.

Sophomore hurler Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) went six plus innings allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts.  She did not walk a batter.

Verronneu earned her first save of the season as she retired all three batters she faced in the seventh.

Hebert belted her second home run of the day, a two run shot which gave BSC a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. She also drove in a run on a groundout in the Bears' two-run fourth inning.

Bridgewater added an insurance run in the top of the seventh as junor shortstop Rachael Sprague (Duxbury, MA) doubled and scored on an RBI single by junior Melissa McNamara (Stoughton, MA).
