Wysong Garners All-New England Honors, Qualifies for NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team at the 2019 NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Bowdoin College.

Wysong placed 12th out of a field of 385 runners as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:11.22.

With his performance on Saturday, Wysong qualified for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships which will take place next Saturday at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

Wysong, who will be making his second straight appearance at Division III national championship meet, is the first runner in program history to qualify in back-to-back years.

The Bears finished 15th out of 54 teams at the meet.

Senior Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed 60th with a time of 26:14.8, while fellow senior Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.) crossed the line in 26:41.8 to finish 92nd overall to round out the Bears' top three harriers.

Junior Ryan Aidan of Williams College won the individual championship with a time of 24:51.6.

Williams College captured the team title while Colby, MIT, Amherst College, Bates College, and Middlebury College rounded out the top six. Williams and Colby automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

MIT, Amherst, Bates and Middlebury are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
