Men's Cross Country Captures Western New England Invitational Title

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's cross country captured the team title at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.) was the Bears' top runner at the meet as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:22. Hutchinson finished fourth out of a field of 182 harriers.

Jacob Hickey from the University of New England won the meet with a time of 25:43.

Bridgewater State also had four other runners place in the top 25. Senior Nikolas Beshere (Winthrop, Mass.) was the next Bear across the finish line in tenth as he checked in with a time of 26:46. Beshere was followed by junior Lukas Moscoso (Whitman, Mass.) in 14th place (26:44), freshman Doug Alvarado (East Boston, Mass.) in 19th place (27:13) and senior Joseph Celia (Bridgewater, Mass.) in 21st place (27:21).

Following Bridgewater in the team standings, UNE and Worcester State University took second and third, respectively.

Following an off weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by Worcester State on Saturday, October 27th.
