Men's Cross Country Places 22nd at New England Championships

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State University men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

The Bears placed 22nd overall in the team standings.

Sophomore Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) was the Bears' top harrier at the meet as he covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:20.7 to finish 46th overall. Classmate Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) recorded a time of 27:35.1 (122nd place), while senior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.) crossed the line in 28:04.1 (146th place) to round out BSU's top three runners.

Junior Sam Brunnette of Plymouth State University won the individual championship with a time of 25:22.8.

MIT captured the team title while Amherst College, Middlebury College, Williams College, Bates College and Brandeis University rounded out the top six. MIT and Amherst automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Middlebury, Williams, Bates and Brandeis are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
