Men's Cross Country Places 2nd at MASCAC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's cross country team placed second at the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Stanley Park in Westfield.

BSU sophomore Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) garnered All-MASCAC honors as he placed second overall at the meet. Wysong covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:07.60.

Senior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.), sophomore Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Gilley Kabamba (Lynn, Mass.) also earrned all-conference accolades for the Bears. Lucier placed fifth with a time of 26:46.10, while Hutchinson finished sixth (26:56.25). Kabamba, who crossed the line in tenth place (27:21.06), was the top freshman at the meet as he was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year.

Fitchburg State University (30 pts.) captured the team title as the Falcons edged runner-up Bridgewater State (34 pts.).

Senior Brian Amaral (Tewksbury, Mass.) of Fitchburg State won the individual title with a time of 25:41.37.

Following a week off, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the New England Division III Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, November 11th.
