Men's Cross Country Places 23rd at NEICAAA Championships

DORCHESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) placed 86th out of a field of 180 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University men's cross country team at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships held on Saturday at Franklin Park.

Wysong covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:54. Junior Leakey Kipkosgei of Division II AIC won the men's race with a time of 24:52.

Senior Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.) was next across the line for the Bears as he placed 124th overall with a time of 27:40. Lucier was followed by sophomore Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.) in 129th place (27:51).

The Bears finished 23rd in the team standings. Division II Stonehill College captured the team title followed by MIT in second place and Division I UMass Amherst in third.

Several members of the BSU men's cross country team competed at the James Earley Invitational held at Stanley Park in Westfield also on Saturday.

Freshman Gilley Kabamba (Lynn, Mass.) was the Bears' top finisher as he covered the eight-kilometer layout in a time of 27:58.81 to place 43rd overall out of field of 266 harriers. Junior Sam Brunette of Plymouth State University won the race with a time of 25:35.03.

Freshman Nikolas Beshere (Winthrop, Mass.) was next across the line for the Bears as he placed 44th overall with a time of 28:00.43. Beshere was followed by sophomore Joseph Celia (Bridgewater, Mass.) in 56th place (28:23.63).

The Bears finished 12th in the team standings. Trinity College captured the team title followed by Williams College in second place and Norwich University in third.

Next weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Memorial State Park.
