Men 5th at Conference Championships

On the men's side, Brian Stewart ran a smart tactical race and steadily moved from 8th placeafter the first mile to 5th place by the 4-mile mark. Brian wasn't done yet. He continued to push over the last mile into 3rd place and held off some late challengers to the finish line. He was the lone Bear on the men's side achieving All MASCAC Conference Honors. However, the rest of the men didn't let the tough competition effect some fine personal showings.
Second year runner Timmy Barrow ran a great race, also passing runners the entire race. Histime of 29:25 was good for 17th place in the meet. The next 4 runners across the line for the Bears were all in their rookie season. Finishing next for the men's team was freshman Lowell Chumsae in 21st with a time of 29:48, continuing his fantastic freshman campaign. Dan Slyne and Stevie Matthews, also both freshmen, took 42nd and 52nd. Rounding out the men's team was sophomore rookie Shaun Henry taking 58th place.
Meet winner Forest Wilbur of Worcester State, running 27:03 on the 8k course, led his team to a 2nd place finish behind a very strong Westfield State College team. Westfield's 46 points were good enough to win the meet. The Bears of Bridgewater took 5th. Both very young teams look to the Alliance meet next weekend at a very fast UMass Dartmouth course to improve on their performances from this week. This is the part of the season where long hard training starts to pay off.
