Men's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Emmanuel Meet

ROXBURY, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's track & field team opened the indoor season at the non-scoring Emmanuel College Indoor Opener on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The Bears' won four events as sophomore Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) captured top honors qualifying for the Division III New England Championships as well as the NEICAAA Championships in both the 60-meter dash (7.02) and the 200-meter dash (22.50).

Freshman Dimetri Morris (North Andover, Mass.) posted the top mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58 seconds. The final event winner was senior Nick Johnson (Marston Mills, Mass.) who tossed the weight throw 51 feet, seven inches (15.72m). Both Johnson and Morris also qualified for DIII New Englands.

Sophomore Jadin Bruneau (Taunton, Mass.) placed second in the 200-meter dash with a DIII New England qualifying time of 22.97 seconds. Bruneau also placed fourth in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds. 

In the field events, two school records were broken. Junior Joseph Zingarelli (North Kingston, R.I.) set a new mark in the pole vault with a distance of 13 feet, 7.25 inches (4.15m). Zingarelli placed second at the meet as he bested Jamie Carlson's previous mark of  13 feet, 5.25 inches (4.10m) set in 2018. Freshman Exondus Barnes (East Providence, R.I.) placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of six feet, 4.75 inches (1.95m) as he eclipsed the previous BSU indoor record of six feet, 4.25 inches (1.94m) set by Justin Powell in 2012. Both Zingarellli and Barnes qualified for DIII New Englands.

Rounding out the DIII New England qualifiers were senior Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.) who placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet 10 inches (13.36m), and freshman Blake Kerwin (Rehoboth, Mass.) who placed fifth in the long jump (20'10"/6.35 meters)

Next Saturday, the BSU track & field teams will compete at Joe Donahue Games Hosted by Northeastern University.
