Josh Winsper to Compete at IWAS Youth World Games in Ireland

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior Josh Winsper has been selected to compete for Team USA at the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports (IWAS) Youth World Games in Ireland during the first week of July.

Winsper, who hails from Rochester, Massachusetts, will compete in both the shot put and the javelin out of the F41 classification at the international event which will take place in Athlone, Ireland from June 30th to July 6th at the Athlone Institute of Technology.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be a member of Team USA, and it’s something not many athletes have a chance to take part in,” said Winsper. “While I hope I do well, the experience is what truly matters most to me.”

Winsper recorded his qualifying marks in both events a year ago at the 2017 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships in Los Angeles, California. He won gold in the in the javelin for the F41 classification with a personal-best toss of 88 feet, seven inches (27.01 meters), and recorded a mark of 27 feet, ten inches (8.48 meters) to earn silver in the shot put.

The shot put is slated to get underway on Tuesday, July 3rd at 5:15 AM (EDT), while the javelin is schedule for Wednesday, July 4th at 9:30 AM (EDT).
