Joshua Higgins Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Joshua Higgins has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Higgins posted a career-best time in the 800-meter run at the MIT Final Qualifying Meet last week. The Fitchburg, Massachusetts product placed first in the event with a time of 1:57.87 as he moved into the top 20 in all of Division III in the event.

Due to his outstanding performance at MIT, Higgins qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 800 and is seeded 15th in the event. He will compete in the NCAA championship meet on Friday afternoon at four o'clock at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Higgins holds the BSU indoor record in the 800-meter run (1:53.00) which he set last season at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet. He is also a part of the Bears' indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay marks along with classmate Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and former teammate Michael Kotleski '18.

Last season, Higgins made his debut at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as he placed 12th in the 800-meter run and ninth, along with Haynes, Lara and Kotleski, in the 4x400-meter relay.
