Lamont Haynes Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Lamont Haynes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is a proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Haynes helped the BSU men's outdoor track & field team win their second straight MASCAC championship and fifth overall this past weekend at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University. The Bears also won the Alliance crown for the second straight season and fifth time in the last seven years.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Haynes captured the MASCAC and Alliance titles in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. He posted a time of 22.32 seconds in the 200 and a season-best time of 48.99 seconds in the 400. Haynes also ran a leg on the Bears’ MASCAC and Alliance winning 4x400-meter relay which recorded a time of 3:24.23.

Haynes currently ranks third among Division III New England student-athletes in the 400 and seventh in the 200.

Haynes holds the BSU outdoor record in the 400 (48.32) which he set in 2017 at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships. He is also a part of the Bears' indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay marks along with classmate Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.), sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and former teammate Michael Kotleski '18.

Last year, Haynes made his debut at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as he placed ninth, along with Higgins, Lara and Kotleski, in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College.
