Lamont Haynes Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Lamont Haynes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Haynes finished eighth in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash with a season and career indoor-best time of 49.78 seconds at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center this past weekend.

Haynes currently ranks 37th in all of Division III in the 400. He is also fourth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 400 and tenth in the 200-meter dash.

Haynes holds the BSU outdoor record in the 400 (48.32) which he set in 2017 at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships. He is also a part of the Bears' indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay marks along with classmate Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.), sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and former teammate Michael Kotleski '18.

Last season, Haynes made his debut at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as he placed ninth, along with Higgins, Lara and Kotleski, in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next weekend, the BSU indoor track & field teams will compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
