Lamont Haynes Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University junior Lamont Haynes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

Haynes recorded a career indoor-best time of 49.74 seconds to finish 60th out of 195 competitors in the 400-meter dash at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University this past weekend. The Boston, Massachusetts product also ran a leg on the Bears’ 4x400-meter relay squad which posted a season-best time of 3:24.56 to place 32nd in the event.

Haynes currently ranks 49th in all of Division III in the 400. He is also ninth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 400 and 15th in the 200-meter dash.

Haynes holds the BSU outdoor record in the 400 (48.32) which he set in 2017 at the NEICAAA Outdoor Championships. He is also a part of the Bears' indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay marks along with classmate Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.), sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and former teammate Michael Kotleski '18.

Last season, Haynes made his debut at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships as he placed ninth, along with Higgins, Lara and Kotleski, in the 4x400-meter relay.

Next weekend, the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the MASCAC Championships hosted by Plymouth State University.
