Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

DeAndrade garnered All-New England honors in two events at the Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held this past weekend at MIT. The Taunton, Massachusetts product placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.06 seconds. He also recorded a career-best time of 7.04 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60, and added an eighth-place showing in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75 seconds.

DeAndrade currently ranks tenth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 60-meter dash and 15th in the 200. He was also named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week on December 10th as well as three straight weeks in January (14th, 21st, 28th) and February 4th.

The BSU men's track & field team has earned eight of the nine MASCAC Rookie of the Week awards during the 2018-2019 indoor season. In addition to DeAndrade, freshman Matthew Cronin (Weymouth, Mass.) garnered the honor on December 3rd, while classmate Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) picked up the accolade on February 11th

Next weekend, select members of the BSU indoor track & field teams will compete at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.
