Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week and third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.

DeAndrade captured top honors in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a career-best and DIII New Englands qualifying time of 7.10 seconds at the Wheaton Invitational this past weekend. The Taunton, Massachusetts native also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.08 seconds.

DeAndrade currently ranks tenth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 60-meter dash and 12th in the 200-meter dash.

The BSU men's track & field team has earned each of the first four MASCAC Rookie of the Week awards to open the indoor season. Freshman Matthew Cronin (Weymouth, Mass.) garnered the honor on December 3rd, while DeAndrade picked up the accolade on December 10th and again on January 14th.

Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams will compete at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational hosted by Tufts University.
