Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week and seventh time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.

DeAndrade placed tenth in the 100-meter dash (10.99) and 17th in the 200-meter dash (22.14) this past weekend at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Southern Connecticut State University. The Taunton, Massachusetts native also garnered All-NEICAAA honors as he ran a leg on the Bears’ 4x100-meter relay squad which placed sixth in the event with a season-best time of 42.23 seconds.

DeAndrade currently ranks sixth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 100-meter dash and 12th in the 200.

All told, DeAndrade has garnered MASCAC Track & Field Rookie of the Week accolades an impressive 14 times during his freshman year of competition. He also earned the honor seven times during the winter indoor season.

On Thursday, several members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the MIT Final Qualifier. The meet is slated to get underway at 5:00 PM.
