Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.

DeAndrade captured top honors in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash this past weekend at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University. The Taunton, Massachusetts product posted a time of 11.29 seconds in the 100 and a season-best time of 22.66 seconds in the 200 as he helped the Bears win the team title at the meet.

DeAndrade currently ranks fifth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 100 and 16th in the 200.

During the winter indoor season, DeAndrade was named the MASCAC Track & Field Rookie of the Week an impressive seven times and ran a leg on the Bears' conference champion 4x400-meter relay squad. He also garnered Division III All-England accolades in both the 200 and 60-meter dash, and was an All-NEICAAA selection in the 60.

DeAndrade and the BSU men's track & field team will compete on Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University. Several of the Bears' distance and mid-distance runners will compete on Friday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College. Senior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) will compete in the decathlon on Thursday and Friday at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
