Jacob DeAndrade Named MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of The Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University freshman Jacob DeAndrade has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC Weekly awards program.

DeAndrade placed second in both the 100-meter dash (11.07) and the 200-meter dash (22.77) as he helped the Bears win the team championship at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic this past weekend. The Taunton, Massachusetts product also ran a leg on the Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad which captured the meet title with a time of 43.24 seconds.

DeAndrade currently ranks 49th in all of Division III in the 100. He is also fourth among Division III New England student-athletes in the 100 and 11th in the 200.

During the winter indoor season, DeAndrade was named the MASCAC Track & Field Rookie of the Week an impressive seven times and ran a leg on the Bears' conference champion 4x400-meter relay squad. He also garnered Division III All-England accolades in both the 200 and 60-meter dash, and was an All-NEICAAA selection in the 60.

The outdoor season continues for DeAndrade and the BSU men's track & field team on Saturday as the Bears compete at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.
