Men's Track & Field Competes at MIT Final Qualifying Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a career-best time in the 800-meter run to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the MIT Final Qualifying Meet on Thursday evening at Henry G. Steinbrenner Track.

Higgins placed first in the 800 with a time of 1:57.87 as he moved into the top 20 in all of Division III in the event.

Higgins also ran a leg on the Bears' 4x400-meter relay along with classmates Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.) as well as sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.). The foursome recorded a time of 3:19.77 to place first in the event.

Haynes checked in with a second-place performance in the 200-meter dash (49.20).

Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) finished first on the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 10.85 seconds. DeAndrade added a fourth-place performance in the 200-meter dash (22.24).

Junior Ryan Bain (Tewksbury, Mass.) won the javelin with a toss of 182 feet, nine inches (55.70m), while sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) finished seventh with a mark of 166 feet, six inches (50.76m).

Sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 2.5 inches (13.17m).

Freshman Josh Quinnie (Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' placewinners at the meet as he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.01 seconds.

Higgins and Moore are both currently in position to compete at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will take place from Thursday, May 23th to Saturday, May 25th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The top 20 student-athletes in individual events qualify for the national championship meet.

Higgins is 17th in the 800, while Moore is eighth in the javelin. Bain is just outside of the top 20 as he is currently 21st in the javelin.

The official list of men's accepted entries for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be released on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM on www.ncaa.com.
