Men's Track & Field Competes at Jerry Gravel Classic

Westfield, Mass. – Freshmen Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) and Kyle Koehler (Swansea, Mass.), and juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), each won individual events to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.

The Bears tied Utica College for second place at the meet with 50 points. Westfield State University finished in first with 69 points, while UMass Dartmouth rounded out the top three with 34 points.

DeAndrade captured top honors in the 100-meter dash as he posted a time of 10.99 seconds, while Koehler posted a time of 16.77 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to secure first.

Haynes won the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 49.04 seconds and his classmate, Ndikumana, placed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.71 seconds.

Haynes, Ndikumana, fellow juniors Nick Johnson (Marston Mills, Mass.) and Spencer Geary (Marlborough, Mass.), and freshman Jadin Bruneau (Taunton, Mass.) each added second place performances for the Bears. Haynes posted a time of 21.94 seconds in the 200, while Ndikumana recorded a mark of five feet, 10.75 inches (1.80m) in the high jump and Johnson threw the discus 131 feet, four inches (40.03m). Geary vaulted 11 feet, 11.75 inches (3.65m), while Bruneau crossed the line with a time of 11.19 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring DeAndrade, Bruneau, Haynes and sophomore DeAndre Thomas placed second in the event with a time of 43.33 seconds.

DeAndrade added a third-place showing in the 200 (22.01), while Johnson also finished third in the hammer throw (152'5"/46.47m).

DeAndrade (100, 200), Bruneau (100, 200), Haynes (200, 400) and Johnson (hammer) all posted qualifying times or marks for the Division III New England Championships in their respective events. Haynes and DeAndrade also qualified for the NEICAAA Championships in the 200, while Johnson qualified for NEICAAA Championships in the hammer. 

The BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete Friday at the 12th Annual Eastern Invitational, hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.
