Carlson Places 14th in Decathlon at Northeast Combined Events Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Bridgewater State University senior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) placed 14th in the decathlon on Friday at the Northeast Combined Events Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut.

Carlson recorded an overall score of 5,261 points over the ten events. He was one of five Division III student-athletes to compete in the decathlon at the meet.

During Friday's five events, Carlson garnered top honors and notched 639 points in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, one inch (38.73m). He tied for second in the pole vault and registered 603 points with a height of 12 feet, 11.5 inches (3.95m). Carlson also tallied 528 points in the javelin (150'7"/45.90m), 515 points in the 110-meter hurdles (18.10) and 243 points in the 1,500-meter run (6:05.20).

On Thursday, Carlson's top event was the shot put as he placed third overall and recorded 625 points with an outdoor career-best toss of 40 feet, 4.75 inches (12.31m). He also recorded 593 points in the 100-meter dash (12.30), 510 points in the long jump (18'6"/5.64m), 504 points in the high jump (5'5"/1.65m) and 501 points in the 400-meter dash (57.54).

Carlson finished with 2,733 points in Thursday's five events and 2,528 points on Friday.
