Moore Eclipses Javelin Mark, Men's Track & Field Captures Corsair Classic Title

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) broke a 19-year old school record in the javelin to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

The Bears placed first in the team standings with 141 points finishing well ahead of second place Westfield State University (109 pts.).

Moore placed third in the javelin at the meet with a toss of 199 feet, six inches (60.81m) as he eclipsed Frank Sherwood's previous school mark of 197 feet, six inches set back in 1998. Moore also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 2.75 inches (6.47m).

The Bears' two relay squads each captured event titles. The 4x100-meter relay team featuring freshmen Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) and Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.), sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) and junior Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) placed first with a time of 43.24 seconds. Haynes, classmates Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) grabbed top honors in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:27.35.

DeAndrade also placed second in both the 100-meter dash (11.07) and the 200-meter dash (22.77), while Higgins finished third in the 800-meter run (2:01.30) and Haynes fourth in the 200 (23.29).

Ndikumana placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, two inches (13.46m) as well as fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.20).

Junior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) tossed the discus 141 feet, four inches (43.08m) to place second in the event, while senior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) posted a third-place showing in the pole vault with a mark of 12 feet, 11.5 inches (3.95m). Junior Ryan Bain (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished right behind Moore in the javelin with a heave of 185 feet, three inches (56.46m).

Senior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) was the second runner to cross the finish line in the 5,000-meter run as he posted a time of 15:55.80. Sophomore Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.) finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run as he completed the race in 4:15.40.

Freshman Kyle Koehler (Swansea, Mass.) and senior Josh Quinnie (Attleboro, Mass.) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Koehler checked in at 16.63 seconds, while Quinnie recorded a time of 16.67 seconds.

Moore currently ranks fifth in all of Division III in the javelin, while Bain is 20th in the javelin.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.
