Men’s Track & Field Competes at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. – Several members of the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet at the Gantcher Center.

The Bears' relay squad featuring juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), Josh Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.), and sophomore John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) placed second in the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:21.20.

Haynes also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (50.28), while Higgins finished seventh in the 800-meter run (1:55.75).

Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) placed third in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.04 seconds. DeAndrade also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 22.44 seconds. Classmate Matthew Lighten (Dalton, Mass.) edged DeAndrade in the 200 as he posted a third-place time of 22.42 seconds.

Sophomore DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) checked in with a fourth-place showing in the triple jump as he recorded a leap of 44 feet, 8.25 inches (13.62). Junior Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) added a seventh-place performance with a toss of 55 feet, seven inches (16.94m) in the weight throw.

With the track size conversion (3:18.05), the Bears' 4x400-meter relay team is ranked 16th in all of Division III in the event. The top 12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships which take place next Friday and Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
