Men's Track & Field Competes at RIC Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University men's track & field team competed at the non-scoring RIC Invitational held on Saturday at Providence Career & Technical High School.

The Bears' relay squad featuring juniors Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.), and sophomores John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and DeAndre Thomas (Montgomery, N.J.) won the meet title in the 4x400 with a time of 3:29.75.

Higgins also captured top honors in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.44 as he qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and NEICAAA Championships in the event.

Haynes added a first place finish in the 400-meter dash with a DIII New Englands qualifying time of 51.47 seconds, while Thomas posted a DIII New Englands qualifying time of 7.18 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash.

Sophomore Joshua Moore (Cape May, Mass.) placed first in the triple jump (43'3.75"/13.20m) and second in the long jump (21'11"/6.68m) as he recorded DIII New Englands qualifying marks in both events.

Junior Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) placed second and qualified for the DIII New Englands in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:54.20, while classmate Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) finished third and qualified for DIII New Englands in the weight throw (51'3"/15.62m).

Freshman Jacob DeAndrade (Taunton, Mass.) placed second in the finals of the 60-meter dash (7.20) as well as the 200-meter dash (23.72), while fellow rookie Kyle Koehler (Swansea, Mass.) finished second in both the high jump (6'0.75"/1.85m) and the finals of the 60-meter hurdles (9.06).

Junior Olivier Ndikumana (Amherst, Mass.) and freshman Devin Proulx (Swansea, Mass.) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump as they both checked in at six feet, 0.75 inches (1.85m). Junior Robert Moreau (Franklin, Mass.) posted a second place showing in the 1,000-meter run (2:45.26), while classmate Spencer Geary (Marlborough, Mass.) finished third in the pole vault (11'11.75"/3.65m) and freshman Matthew Cronin (Weymouth, Mass.) grabbed the third spot in the shot put (42'7"/12.98m).

The Bears are off until after the New Year when they compete at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 12th.
