Four Bears Head to NCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomores Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg Mass.), senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) and freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) will be competing at the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships later this week.

The championships will be held on Friday, March 9th and Saturday, March 10th at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, with Birmingham Southern College and the Birmingham CrossPlex serving as hosts.

Higgins is seeded fifth in the 800-meter run. He recorded his qualifying and BSU school-record mark of 1:53.00 (converted to 1:51.41 due to track size) this past weekend at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.

Haynes, Higgins, Kotleski and Lara are seeded 11th in the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome posted their qualifying time of 3:19.80 (converted to 3:16.67 due to track size) also at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet.

The preliminary race of the 800-meter run is slated to take place on Friday afternoon at 4:45 PM (EST), with the finals scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:40 PM (EST). The 4x400 preliminaries is expected to get undeway on Friday evening at 6:35 PM (EST), with the finals on Saturday evening at 6:05 PM (EST). 

All four BSU student-athletes are making their debut at an NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship meet.

The Bears' relay squad set the school indoor record in the 4x400 (3:18.76) two weeks ago at the BU Last Chance Meet.

For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 15 declared student- athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
