Men's Track & Field Places 6th at DIII New Englands

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University track & field team garnered All-New England honors in seven different events on Saturday at the Division III New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by MIT.

Sophomore Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) was the Bears top placewinner as he finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.64 seconds.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring Haynes, freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.), sophomore Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) and senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 3:19.02.

Higgins also placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a career-best time of 1:52.91.

Senior Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 46 feet, 10.75 inches (14.29m), while junior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) place fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:33.72.

Senior Austin James (Mansfield, Mass.) added a seventh-place performance in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, three inches (14.40m).

The Bears' 4x800-meter relay squad featuring seniors Justin Lucier (Attleboro, Mass.), Michael Sanpietro (South Easton, Mass.) and Zack Viera (Fairhaven, Mass.), and sophomore Miguel Andrade (Brockton, Mass.) placed eighth in the event with a time of 7:59.61.

Bridgewater finished sixth in the team standings with 40 points. The host Engineers won the meet title with 162.5 points, followed by Bates College (75 pts.) in second place and UMass Dartmouth (64 pts.) in third.

All told, the Bears earned All-New England accolades in ten events over the three-day meet. On Friday, junior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) placed third in the decathlon (5,387 pts.), while sophomore Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) finished fourth in the discus (157'/47.86m) and freshman Joshua Moore (Cape May, N.J.) grabbed sixth place in the long jump (22'1"/6.73m).

Next weekend, qualifying members of the BSU men's outdoor track & field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Dartmouth College.
