Carlson Competes in Decathlon at DIII New Englands

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) is in fifth place in the decathlon after the first day of the 2018 Division III New England Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by MIT.

Carlson recorded a score of 2,759 points over the first five events. Sophomore William Canty of host Westfield State University leads all decathletes at the meet with 3,280 points.

Carlson posted a score of 639 points in the 100-meter dash (12.06), 610 points in the shot put (39'6.75"/12.06m), 539 points in the 400-meter dash (56.53), 488 points in the high jump (5'4.25"/1.63m) and 483 points in the long jump (18'0.5"/5.5m). He recorded career-best times in both the 100 and the 400.

Carlson placed first in the shot put and fifth in the 400. He also finished sixth in both the 100 and the high jump, and seventh in the long jump.

The decathlon will resume on Friday at noon.
