Men's Indoor Track & Field Competes at Tufts Final Qualifying Meet

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Seven members of the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Senior Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) captured top honors in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 47 feet, 2.5 inches (14.39m).

Sophomore Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed second and set the school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.00, while classmate Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.56 seconds. Higgins eclipsed Josh Goehring's previous BSU indoor mark of 1:53.43 set in 2014.

Higgins and Haynes along with freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 3:19.80.

Seniors Austin James (Mansfield, Mass.) and Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) finished seventh (45'6.5"/13.88m) and tenth (42'11.5"/13.09m), respectively, in the shot put.

With the flat track conversion, Higgins is currently ranked fifth in all of Division III in the 800 (1:51.41) while the 4x400 relay is ranked 12th (3:16.67). The top 15 student-athletes in the 800 and the top 12 relay teams qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships which will take place next Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
