Carlson Leads Heptathlon at Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) is in first place after four heptathlon events on Friday evening at the two-day Wheaton Invitational.

Carlson has 2,350 points after four events as he holds a 144-point lead on Geoffrey Delorie of Coast Guard Academy.

Carlson notched 634 points in the shot put as he posted a mark of 40 feet, 10.25 inches (12.45m) to finish first in the event. He tallied 619 points in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.80 seconds. Carlson also registered 560 points in the high jump (5'7.75"/1.72m) and 537 points in the long jump (18'11.25"/5.77m).

The heptathlon wraps up on Saturday morning with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
