Men's Track & Field Wins Nine Events, Zingarelli Sets Pole Vault Mark at Lyons Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field squad won nine events and freshman Joseph Zingarelli (Saunderstown, R.I.) set the school pole vault record on Saturday at the non-scoring Lyons Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.

Zingarelli posted a height of 13 feet, one inch (3.98m) in the pole vault as he eclipsed Allan Villatoro's previous BSU indoor mark of 12 feet, 6.75 inches set back in 2003.

Seven different Bears won individual events.

In the field events, senior Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) placed first in the shot put (47'1.25"/14.36m), freshman Andrew Chen (Waltham, Mass.) captured top honors in the high jump (6'4"/1.93m), sophomore Nick Johnson (Marstons Mills, Mass.) recorded the top mark in the weight throw (50'11"/15.52m) and senior Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) posted the longest leap in the triple jump (45'4.75"/13.84m).

In the track events, sophomore Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) won the 400-meter dash (50.63), while junior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Trevor Wysong (Taunton, Mass.) were the first to cross the finish line in the mile run (4:22.80) and 5,000-meter run (15:35.40), respectively.

The Bears' 4x800-meter relay squad featuring senior Zack Viera (Fairhaven, Mass.), sophomore Mike Hutchinson (Leominster, Mass.), Wysong and freshman Gilley Kabamba (Lynn, Mass.) placed first with a time of 8:38.72.

Sophomore Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.), Haynes, freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) and senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.) teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:23.47.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the Wheaton Invitational and the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic.
