Williamson Leads Men's Track & Field at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Cameron Williamson (North Easton, Mass.) placed first in the triple jump to lead the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team at the non-scoring Tufts Invitational on Saturday at the Gantcher Center.

Williamson posted a season-best mark of 45 feet, 11.25 inches (14.00m) to win the event.

Sophomore Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.) and freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.) placed third (1:24.29) and fifth (1:24.75), respectively, in the 600-meter run, while junior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Joshua Higgins (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished fourth (2:33.92) and seventh (2:36.85), respectively, in the 1,000-meter run.

Sophomore Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.) added a seventh place showing in the 200-meter dash (23.18).

In the field events, seniors Austin James (Mansfield, Mass.) and Brayden Hollowell (Nashua, N.H.) placed fifth (45'4.25"/13.82m) and seventh (45'1.5"/13.75m), respectively, in the shot put, while junior Austin Maskell (Weymouth, Mass.) finished sixth in the weight throw (47'4.25"/14.43m) and junior Jamie Carlson (Jericho, Vt.) grabbed the eighth spot in the pole vault (12'5.5"/3.80m). Carlson was less than two inches shy of the Bears' indoor pole vault record of 12'6.75" (Allan Villatoro, 2003). 

Williamson, Haynes, Lara, Keough, Higgins, Cordeiro, James, Hollowell and Maskell also posted Division III New England Championships qualifying times or marks, while Williamson also qualified for the NEICAAA Championships.

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the Wheaton Invitational.
