Carlson Competes in Decathlon at DIII New Englands

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Jamie Carlson (Maynard, Mass.) is in ninth place in the decathlon after the first day of the 2017 Division III New England Track & Field Championships hosted by Williams College.

Carlson recorded a score of 2,638 points over the first five events. Junior Tommy Riley of host Williams leads all decathletes at the meet with 3,395 points.

Carlson posted a score of 595 points in the 100-meter dash (12.29), 592 points in the shot put (38'7.5"/11.77m), 519 points in the long jump (18'7.75"/5.68m), 504 points in the high jump (5'5"/1.65m) and 428 points in the 400-meter dash (59.57).

Carlson placed first in the shot put and seventh in the long jump. He also tied for eighth in high jump, tied for tenth in the 100 and placed 11th in the 400.

The decathlon will resume on Friday at noon.
