PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- Senior Chris
Clark (Pittsfield, MA) placed first in the shot put
(45-11.25) to help the Bridgewater State Men’s Outdoor Track
and Field team finish in 10th place at the New England Alliance
Championships hosted by Rhode Island College.
Westfield took the top spot in the meet with 145 points while
Southern Maine (135) and Keene State (106.50) each left in second
and third, respectively. The Bears scored 35 total team points.
Among MASCAC schools, the Bears finished in sixth place with 51
points while Westfield State finished first with 251 points and
Fitchburg State came in second with 142.
Senior Nilton Gomes (Fall River, MA) and junior
Jason Williams (Bradford, MA) also qualified for
the Division III New England Championships next week. Gomes crossed
the line in fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of :50.48
while Williams notched fourth in the hammer throw (149-09).
Clark also notched fifth in the discus (124-00) while freshman
Sammie Ervan (Carver, MA) placed seventh in the
long jump (20.01-75). Gomes jumped fifth in the triple jump (41-06)
while freshman Michael Casely (Abington, MA)
finished ninth (39-03.25). Sophomore Matt Marden
(Wilmington, MA) capped off the field events with an 11th place
throw in the javelin with a distance of 149-08 feet.
Junior Avery Bouchard (Fall River, MA) registered
fourth in the 5,000 (15:38.74) while Gomes took 12th in the 200
meter dash (:23.60). Ervan placed 17th in the 100 (:12.01) while
classmate Christopher Dagistino (Littleton, MA)
finished 13th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.88).
In relay action, the 4 x 100 relay team of Ervan, Casley,
Dagistino and freshman Chris Nash (Weymouth, MA)
took ninth with a time of 45.31.
BSC hits the track again on Saturday when qualifying members of
the team will travel to Coast Guard to compete at the Division III
New England Championships. The three-day event will start on
Thursday.
