Men's Tennis Posts 8-1 Little East Win Over Western Connecticut

DANBURY, Conn. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University men's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Little East Conference (LEC) foe Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Courts.

The Bears improve to 9-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East, while the Colonials fall to 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Bridgewater State will complete a match at Salem State University tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock. The outcome of the match will determine seeding for next week's Little East Tournament.

The Bears swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights.

Senior Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and graduate student Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 decision at the top doubles flight, while seniors Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, N.Y.) and Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, N.Y.) paired up for an 8-0 victory at the second spot. Juniors Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) and Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 triumph at number three.

Nutter cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at number three singles, and Pavao secured the decisive fifth point with a 6-0, 6-4 straight set triumph at the top spot. Ziegler (6-3, 6-2) and Desnoes (6-2, 7-5) added straight set wins for the Bears at the second and fifth flights, respectively. Dwyer battled to a tough 7-6 (10-6), 6-1 decision in his sixth flight match.

Senior Mitchell Kindred (New Fairfield, Conn.) picked up the Wolves' lone point with a 6-4, 6-4 win at fourth singles.
