Men's Tennis Falls to UMass Dartmouth, 5-0, in Little East Quarterfinals

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Third-seeded UMass Dartmouth blanked #6 seed Bridgewater State University, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the UMD Tennis Courts.

The host Corsairs (9-9) advance to the tournament semifinal round and will travel to second-seeded Salem State University on Thursday afternoon to take on the Vikings at 3:30. The visiting Bears end the 2018 season with an overall record of 1-9.

UMass swept the three doubles matches and then picked up wins at fourth and second singles to secure the victory. The other four singles matches were stopped as soon as the Corsairs recorded the deciding fifth point.

Patrick Pacheco and Eli Brooks teamed up for an 8-0 win at first singles, while Tristin Viale and Anthony Joseph earned an 8-2 decision at the second flight. Mark Desmond and Pat O'Neil hung on for an 8-6 triumph over BSU seniors Dan O'Malley (Duxbury, Mass.) and Ross Bloomfield (Lexington, Mass.) at number three to complete the doubles sweep.

Brooks cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at fourth singles and Viale posted a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at the second flight to end the match. 

Bloomfield was tied with O'Neill, 5-5, in the first set at number six singles when the match was stopped.
