Men's Tennis Falls to Division I Holy Cross, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Division I Holy Cross on Sunday at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The visiting Crusaders improve to 3-14 on the season with the win, while the host Bears fall to 1-5.

Holy Cross swept the three doubles matches and all six singles flight to record the victory.

The Bears' tandem of junior Michael Scollins (Marshfield, Mass.) and sophomore Joshua Bean (Kingston, Mass.) battled to a tough 8-5 setback at second doubles. Scollins also dropped a hard-fought 6-4, 6-1 straight set decision to senior Johnny McAuliffe (Peru, N.Y.) at the second singles flight, while senior Tom Cimini (Pittsfield, Mass.) defeated Bean in straight sets at number five, 6-3, 6-0.

In the top flight singles match-up, sophomore Matthew Murphy (Guilford, Conn.) edged BSU senior Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 Little East Conference match with the Corsairs. The Crusaders head to UMass Dartmouth on Monday afternoon to take on the Corsairs at 3:30.
