Men's Tennis Falls to UMass Boston, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting UMass Boston men's tennis team posted a 7-2 win over Little East Conference foe Bridgewater State University in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen  Memorial Tennis Courts.

UMass improves to 8-7 on the season and 6-0 in the Little East. The top seed in next week's Little East Tournament, the Beacons have a first round bye and will host a semifinal round match on Thursday afternoon.

The host Bears fall to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Bridgewater is seeded fourth in next week's tournament and will host either Southern Maine or Salem State in a quarterfinal round match on Tuesday afternoon.

UMass captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flight to record the victory.

Junior Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico), freshman Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) and sophomore Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) all went 2-0 in the victory for the Beacons.

DeLasse and Comerchero paired up for an 8-4 win at first doubles, while Platteel teamed with junior Guang Huang (Quincy, Mass.) for an 8-3 triumph at the third spot.

DeLasse, Comerchero and Platteel all won in straight sets at the first (6-3, 6-2), third (6-1, 6-0) and sixth (6-1, 6-1) flights, respectively.

BSU senior Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) improved to 10-1 in singles play, including a perfect 6-0 against Little East opponents, with a 6-4, 6-0 straight set victory at the second flight.

The second flight doubles team of seniors Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Michael Delisle (Berkley, Mass.) earned an 8-4 decision for the Bears' lone doubles point.
