Men's Tennis Falls to Eastern Nazarene, 8-1

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to non-conference foe Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.

The host Lions improve to 16-3 on the season, while the Bears fall to 5-5.

Freshman Joshua Bean (Kingston, Mass.) picked up Bridgewater's lone point of the afternoon as he recorded a 7-5, 10-3 win at sixth flight singles. Bean is 2-1 since cracking the Bears' starting lineup earlier this week.

Eastern Nazarene swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights.

ENC freshman Laurent Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top singles position, while freshman Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) outlasted BSU senior Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) in a third set super-tiebreaker at the second flight. The rookie dropped the opening set 6-2 before roaring back to claim the second set 6-3 and the super-tiebreaker 10-4.

Pierson also teamed with classmate Santiago Camero (Valencia, Venezuela) for an 8-6 win at first doubles.

Bridgewater wraps up regular season play on Saturday at home against Little East Conference rival UMass Boston. The match is slated to get underway at noon. ENC begins postseason play on Wednesday, May 3rd as the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament.
