Men's Tennis Downs Southern Maine, 6-3

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match on Tuesday afternoon at The Racket & Fitness Center.

With the win over the Huskies, Bridgewater State improves to 5-4 on the season and 3-2 in the Little East. Southern Maine drops to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the LEC.

BSU took a 2-1 lead into the singles matches claiming victories at second and third doubles. Seniors Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Michael Delisle (Berkley, Mass.) earned a tough 9-7 win at the second flight, while junior Jacob Frazee (Yarmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Scollins (Marshfield, Mass.) notched an 8-4 victory at number three.

The Bears won four out of the six singles points to secure the 6-3 decision. Senior Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.), Delisle and freshman Joshua Bean (Kingston, Mass.) all won in straight sets at the second (6-2, 7-5), fourth (6-3, 6-1) and sixth (6-0, 6-0) flights, respectively. Jastrab remains unbeaten in singles play as he improved to 9-0. For Bean, the win marked his first collegiate victory.

Haley split his first two sets at third singles, 6-3, 3-6, before taking the match with a 10-3 decision in the super tie-breaker.

Senior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the top singles flight, while freshman Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) was the other USM winner in singles action picking up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 triumph at number five. Curley and junior Samuel Holland (Falmouth, Maine) posted an 8-4 victory at first doubles for the Huskies' lone doubles point.

Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting Rhode Island College for a Little East Conference match. Bridgewater State travels to Eastern Nazarene on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) in a non-conference match.
