Men's Tennis Edges Suffolk, 5-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University men's tennis team edged Suffolk University, 5-4, on Tuesday evening at the BB&N Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 1-2 on the season, while the host Rams fall to 0-4. The win marked the first collegiate men's tennis coaching victory for rookie head coach, David Purpura.

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles matches and split the six singles flights.

In doubles play, the Bears top flight tandem of seniors Matt McGee (Warren, R.I.) and Chris Jastrab (Chicago, Ill.) recorded an 8-4 victory, while senior Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Alexander Belinsky (Norton, Mass.) paired up for an 8-4 triumph at the second flight.

Bridgewater then received straight set wins in singles play from Jastrab, Belinsky and senior Michael Delisle (Berkley, Mass.) to secure the victory. Jastrab won 6-2, 6-0 at the second flight, while Belinsky notched a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at the fifth spot. Delisle recorded the fifth and deciding point with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #4.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday afternoon. The Bears host Little East Conference (LEC) foe Salem State University at one, while the Rams entertain Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Johnson & Wales University at four.
