Men's Tennis Blanks Anna Maria, 9-0
PAXTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College men's tennis team won their second straight match as the Bears downed the AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Paxton Sports Centre.
The win improves the Bears' record to 2-3 on the season, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 0-2 to start the year.
Senior Matt Charest (Somerset, MA), sophomore Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA), and senior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) each swept their singles matches (6-0, 6-0), while freshmen Duncan Yarworth (Wrentham, MA), Jeff Belleville (Grafton, MA), and Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) each captured victories in their singles matches as well.
Charest and Yarworth combined to win their doubles match, 8-0, while Lipomi and fellow sophomore Nicholas Amrose (Arlington, MA) were equally impressive while taking their doubles match, 8-1.
AMC's Jesus Torres (Southbridge, MA) and Adam Williamson (Spencer, MA) gave the Bears much more trouble before eventually falling to Zagame and sophomore David Campbell (Vineyard Haven, MA) by the score of 8-5.
Bridgewater will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Johnson & Wales University, while the AMCATS take to the courts again on Thursday at home versus Wentworth at 6 PM.
