Men's Tennis Records First Win of the Season
WORCESTER, MASS. -- The Bridgewater State College men's tennis captured their first win of the season as the Bears knocked off host Clark University, 6-3, on Friday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts in Worcester.
Senior Matt Charest (Somerset, MA) and freshman Duncan Yarworth (Wrentham, MA) teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles for the Bears (1-3). Charest and Yarworth later picked up wins at first and second singles, respectively. Charest dominated the battle of the top flight players as he won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0
Senior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) and freshman Jeff Belleville (Grafton, MA) also won in doubles play for the Bears as the third flight team cruised to an 8-0 victory.
BSC sophomore Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) and freshman Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA) rounded out the Bears' singles winners. Lipomi won in straight sets at the fourth flight (6-3, 6-4), while Zagame posted a straight set victory at the number five spot (6-2, 6-4).
Senior Ben Gross (Newton, MA) and junior Aaron Chin (Hong Kong, China) captured Clark's lone doubles point with an 8-1 win.
Senior Rocco Li (Hong Kong, China) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 singles slot, while teammate Socheata Ly (Lexington, Mass.) claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
