Bridgewater, Mass. -- In non-conference men's tennis action, the Bridgewater State College Bears came away with a solid 9-0 victory over Wheelock College this afternoon from the Dr. Henry Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts in Bridgewater.
The Bears (2-2) swept all three doubles and all six singles matches to come away with the impressive victory. Junior co-captain Matt Charest (Somerset, MA) teamed up with freshman Gonzalo Gomez (Wilmington, VT) to come away with an 8-1 victory at first flight doubles. Charest went on to a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win in first flight singles action as he improved to 3-1 on the season in singles play.
Senior co-captain Barry Gorman (Hopedale, Ma) remained undefeated in four singles matches this season as he won in straight sets at the second flight, 6-1, 6-0.
Gomez and fellow freshman Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA) picked up their first collegiate singles victories as they won their respective matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Gomez competed at the third flight while Lipomi was at the fourth spot. Lipomi also won his first doubles match along with freshman Nicholas Amrose (Arlington, MA) as the duo came away with an 8-3 win at the second flight.
Junior Brendon Barbo (Yarmouthport, MA) and senior Jonathan Bouchard (Medway, MA) rounded out the Bears' singles winners as they both won in straight sets at the fifth and sixth flight respectively.
Freshmen Kevin Eam (Dartmouth, MA) and Casey Winner (Bourne, MA) saw their first action this season as they teamed up for an 8-0 victory at third flight doubles.
Bridgewater will be hosting Little East foe Western Connecticut State on Saturday at 1.
