Men's Swimming & Diving Cruises to 158-40 Win over Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team cruised to a 158-40 victory over Elms College on Saturday at the Partyka Natatorium.

The Bears (5-1) placed first in ten of the 11 events.

Freshman Thomas Scalese (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomore Sebastian Gwynne (Mansfield, Mass.), senior Eric Henderson (Cumberland, R.I.) and junior Devin Bombardier (Duxbury, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 2:06.37.

The quartet of senior Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.), freshmen Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.) and Ben Wilkinson (Reading, England), and senior Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) won the meet-ending 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.40.

Flaherty also captured top honors in both the 50 freestyle (25.38) and the 50 backstroke (29.81), while Wilkinson was the first to touch the wall in the 100 individual medley (1:05.81) and 400 freestyle (4:39.06). Anastasiades also won two individual events for the Bears in the 100 freestyle (58.07) and 50 breaststroke (32.08).

Bridgewater State also received individual event wins from Santos in the 50 butterfly (27.87) and senior Timucin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) in the 800 freestyle (9:52.30).

The Bears are off until Saturday, December 7th when they host a tri-meet with Gordon College and Norwich University.
