Men's Swimming & Diving Sinks Elms, 130-69

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team breezed to a 130-69 victory over visiting Elms College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (5-2) placed first in ten of the 12 events and also had two events that would have had winning times but were competed in as exhibitions.

Senior Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) and juniors Sean Collette (Waltham, Mass.), Sean Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) and Giulian Santos (Framingham, Mass.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 1:49.75.

Santos, senior Robert McDougall (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomores Michael Leung (Wakefield, Mass.) and Casey Cross (Attleboro, Mass.) were the first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.0) as they swam the event as an exhibition to close out the meet.

Rose also captured top honors in both the 1,000 freestyle (10:53.25) and 100 freestyle (1:00.71), while junior Timucin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.) placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.04) as well as the 500 freestyle (5:24.85).

Leung, McDougall, Santos and Flaherty rounded out the Bears' individual swimming event winners. Leung in the 50 freestyle (24.48), McDougall in the 100 individual medley (1:00.16), Santos in the 50 butterfly (24.61) and Flaherty in the 100 freestyle (50.90). Leung's time in the 50 freestyle marked a season-best.

Flaherty was also the first to touch the wall in the 50 breaststroke (30.96) as he competed in the event as an exhibition.

Junior Joseph Capella (New Bedford, Mass.) won the one-meter diving competition with a score of 153.40 points.

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 19th (1:00 PM) when they host a tri-meet against Brandeis University and Keene State College.
